Today is National Aviation Day. While the last year has not been easy for our industry, it has shown the passion, dedication and resilience of those involved in aviation. We are so proud to be a part of Canada’s aviation industry. We will continue to weather this storm together. #aircanadaexpress #operatedbyjazz ...

In honour of Black History Month, we are celebrating the early achievements and contributions made by Black Canadian aviators.

Born in Nova Scotia and raised in New Brunswick, Walter “Wally” Peters enrolled in the Royal Canadian Air Force at 24-years-old. Peters was accepted into the jet pilot training program and completed the course with top honours, becoming the first Canadian-born Black jet fighter pilot.

Based in Saskatchewan, his skills were put to good use as a flying instructor. He flew the C-100 “Canuck” fighter/interceptor in a number of air shows. In the early 1970s he helped organize the famous Snowbirds air demonstration squadron. He flew the CT 114 Tutor jet as a Snowbird for two years. He was the first human rights officer in the RCAF and an advisor to the UN Security Council in New York. He retired from the RCAF with the rank of Major in 1984 and worked until 1988 with Transport Canada.

Many testify to his importance as a role model for both visible minorities and all members of the RCAF. (Source: New Brunswick Black History Society) #blackhistorymonth

Did you know? Before an aircraft is placed into storage, our maintenance teams do a series of checks as a part of the storage package. Storage checks revolve around one goal: keeping moisture and other external forces out in order to protect the aircraft from damage. We then perform weekly and monthly checks to ensure everything is being maintained for when the aircraft is ready to return to the skies! #aviationfacts #maintenance #jazztechnicalservices ...

In honour of Black History Month, we are celebrating the early achievements and contributions made by Black Canadian aviators.

Gerald "Gerry" Bell was one of Canada’s first Black airmen. Bell was born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1909. The future pilot’s first chosen career was medicine, but a chance encounter with a plane and its pilot at a nearby airstrip led to a lifelong passion for flying. Bell secretly took flying lessons, for he was sure that his parents, proud of their aspiring doctor son, would not approve. However, when the local daily paper ran a story about him, his passion was revealed and his career in medicine was permanently sidelined. He served in England during World War II and continued to be closely connected with aviation until his death. (Source: Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum).

In honour of Black History Month, we are celebrating the early achievements and contributions made by Black Canadian aviators.

Eric Watts was one of Canada’s first Black airmen, serving as a pilot in the RCAF during World War II. Watts held multiple other roles throughout his military career. Whether serving as an instructor or as a section head, he was considered one of the best. As the wing air armaments officer at 1 Wing in Marville, France, he took the Wing’s armaments serviceability rate from last to first among the four wings in the Canadian Air Division.
