It’s Women’s History Month in Canada and to celebrate we are highlighting women who made significant impacts to the Canadian aviation industry. Captain Judy Cameron graduated from Selkirk College’s aviation program in June 1975, becoming the first woman in Canada to receive a certification in aviation technology. She also obtained commercial and multi-instrument ratings at the same time. Judy worked as a bush pilot for several companies in order to gain the skills to reach her main goal: flying for an airline. Judy became the first female pilot hired by Air Canada in 1978. Today, Judy spends her time promoting the aviation industry to young women across the country. #womenshistorymonth ...

Today we recognize and honour both Orange Shirt Day and Canada’s first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. It provides the opportunity to discuss the effects of residential schools and their legacy, the experiences of Indigenous Peoples, celebrates resilience and affirms a commitment that every child matters.

On this day, our employees have the opportunity to virtually tour the Mohawk Institute Indian Residential School. Attendees will follow Lorrie Gallant, a Mohawk Institute guide, as she gives a tour of the former residential school. Lorrie provides the history of the 140-year-old institution. Participants will get to see the different rooms in the school, as well as hear interviews from five survivors of the Mohawk Institute.

Jazz remains committed to truth and reconciliation and will continue to seek knowledge and provide learning opportunities for employees.

Jazz acknowledges that our head office is located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral, traditional, and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. We also acknowledge that we work on and provide services to many Indigenous treaty lands and territories across Canada.
